Home Remedies Provide Eczema Relief For Many People

By: Rich Fuller

Many eczema sufferers choose home remedies to relieve symptoms and help heal their skin condition. Home remedies may include diet changes, the topical use of medicinal herbs and nutritional supplements

Holistic practitioners usually recommend immediate diet changes for eczema sufferers. Some people report immediate relief when they completely eliminate irritating foods from their diet. While the irritants vary from person to person, some of the most common culprits in food allergies include wheat, cow’s milk, shellfish, oranges, peanuts, food preservatives and corn.

Flaxseed oil is often recommended as a home remedy for eczema because it is a good source of essential fats, which help to decrease inflammation. People with eczema usually have low levels of essential fatty acids in their bodies. A typical dose of flaxseed oil is one tablespoon per day. Some people have reported that eating raw potatoes (at least two a day) has been helpful in clearing up eczema. If you decide to use this home remedy, make sure the potatoes are thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed. Visit http://www.eczemacuretreatment.com to learn more about eczema.

There are several topical home remedies that are used for eczema. One of them involves mixing one teaspoon of camphor with one teaspoon of sandalwood paste and applying this to the affected areas. Some people rub a nutmeg against a smooth stone slab and add a little water to make a paste that can be applied to the affected areas. A teaspoon of sandalwood can mixed with a teaspoon of camphor and applied topically to help ease eczema symptoms. Brewer’s yeast mixed with water is another popular home remedy. This paste is applied to the affected area and left there until it dries out and crumbles off.

Other topical home remedies include the use of primrose oil, chamomile and St. John’s Wort. These are applied to dry, cracked skin to promote the healing process. Some companies produce a variety of topical ointments that incorporate the use of these herbs.

Vitamin E is another effective topical remedy for eczema. It calms the itching when applied to cracked skin. Never use a synthetic form of vitamin E because your body will not be able to break it down. Synthetic Vitamin E has a “dl” instead of a “d” in front of its description on the bottle.

Vitamin B complex taken orally has also been helpful in reducing eczema symptoms in some people. Vitamin B 12 is another supplement that is believed to be beneficial in the treatment of eczema. Zinc supplements are also believed to be effective. Doses should not exceed 30 mg. per day because too much zinc can cause a copper deficiency.

If you are under the care of a dermatologist make sure that he or she is aware of any home remedies you are using. Some home remedies may interfere with prescription medications you are taking or may cause adverse reactions.
