Is Snoring Keeping You Awake

By: Tommy Thompson

For anyone who sleeps next to a person that snores, you are all to familiar with the frustration of trying to sleep while all this loud racket is going on. And more aggravating than the noise, is the fact that the person snoring is totally unaware of the situation and they are sleeping and you are not!

Snoring however can be stopped and blissful sleep can be had by all. Snoring mostly occurs due to obstruction in breathing, when your nasal passages are too narrow and block the air. When a person is sleeping, their body is very relaxed. The tissue of the soft palate in the roof of the mouth can become so relaxed that it sags into the airway and as a person’s breath rushes past it vibrates.

Sometimes there will be light rustling noise and other times there will be loud snorting sounds. Sometimes, just changing the sleeping position will help. Eating light in the evenings may also help curb the snoring. Some excessive snorers have had success with the nasal breathing strips.

You may want to speak to your doctor about snoring to rule out any sleeping disorders such as sleep apnea. Snoring can also be caused by nasal allergies, infections, or deformities of the tonsils and adenoids. In extreme cases, surgery may help. Snoring should not be ignored, especially if it is interrupting the sleep of others.

If nothing helps to stop snoring you may want to ask your doctor about snoring surgery, which is easy and fast and the best part is that it cures your snoring forever in most cases. The other way to stop snoring now is to use different types of oral appliances depending on the type of snoring problem you have.

It's time to stop the snoring and get the rest you need.
